mcfall salvage wanted 800 quid - hope the engine came for free ffs

there was an engine on ebay for 650

but i missed an engine and box in kent coupla months ago for 150 (DOH)

any leads welcome  :152: waiting for reply from rs in todmorden

oh and itll go in but soon as you accelerate it stutters like its not quite there - is this likely to be a bent selector (60 quid)

have a look on a microfiche or manual, you may have nothing to lose by having a go....assuming you have the time :002:

do it yourself -  dead easy, they even made it a cassette box so dont even have drop the engine. Generally, you need the offending gear togther with its neighbour (i.e dogs and grooves can wear/damaged) and almost always the gear will push over the selector fork. (I.e compare to the other/if marked at all etc, change it) Normally looking ?60 ish per gear, ?30 for fork.

dont keep using it, they can jam, wreck you engine, throw you off.

as 133bhp---repair your own gearbox [1 day if the dealer has the parts including getting bits] i'd check first.
from 9-31 in the workshop manual explains all
?150 all in sounds about right for what you say is wrong, could be a lot less if there are just teeth missing/worn, don't forget to change the opposing running gear as 133bhp says
mark the gear change linkages before removing them [they might have center pop marks] if they don't give 'em some, it is so much easier on reassembling.
the box comes out of the crankcases whole so even if you get lost you can just take gearbox to a dealer and go----help  :008:

it looks easy on having a quick look at manual,  no re-shimming and gaping of synchro cones
I'm terrified. We're in a jumbo 747, at an altitude of 30,000ft, going at 500 mph, and the drivers are asleep.

Hairnet, I told you that back in Aug.  Get it sorted before it costs you more or you get hurt.
