Mk3 Crash Bung/Mushroom/Slider recommendations?
« on: Jan 13, 2018, 10:21 PM »
Just looking for some advice on what long standing members find works best for the MK3 for crach protection. I have done a search, found the odd thread but nothing in detail of comparisons.
Can anybody offer any advice or comments on what does or dosent work?

Thanks

Crash bars work much better than sliders.  That's my recommendation.  Which crash bars is up to you...   :008:

I've got the kawasaki sliders on mine.  They suit the bike IMO.  They blend in nicely.

I can now see why a lot of Mk 3 owners crack the side panels on their new bikes if they unfortunately drop them, as the indicator is mounted directly to the plastic side panel  :138:

Unlike the superior Mk1 where it is mounted further inboard directly to the frame  :028:

and is also protected by the H&B crash bar  :028:

However if owners of the Mk3 wish to get some cheap Flush mounted Indicators from Fleabay like this  :notsure:

It may avoid having to fork out for some expensive side panels  :027:

However even the new H&B bars for the Mk3 will not protect the fairing from cracking around the OEM indicator as it is not wide enough :157:

Thanks for the replies guy, and you photos Kawky, I have seen the photos of the Kawasaki Sliders but didnt realise the size until I saw them fitted in your pics. The fact the engine bars dont prevent the indicators poking a hole or cracking the plastics I just might go the Kawaski slider route but will wait a bit longer in case there are some further suggestions on here.

My Versys 1000 wears Evotech crash bungs, top quality stuff, a company that know their stuff, and are always helpful.  Take a look.    https://evotech-performance.com

Mine wears the touratech bars (not dissimialr to the H&b in the pics below), and yes, the indicator will likely cause damage in the case of a drop. It's a pity they're not sacrificial, and replacing them with something else is on my long list of things to do to the bike.

Having said that, I went for the bars as they provide a lot of coverage, and may prevent more serious damage.

Note, the givi bars might be a good compromise between the sliders and the bars, and they fit with the aux lights too, if you have them.

https://www.givi.co.uk/my-motorcycle#KAWASAKI,Versys_650_(15_%3E_17) the givi ones are there.

I've seen them fitted in the flesh and the look good. In hind sight, I might have gone with these vs the touratech bars, as I've removed my aux lights and still haven't fitted new ones. However, I'm not sure how much extra protection they add over the sliders.
