MKIII Starting Issue
« on: Mar 21, 2018, 11:52 AM »
Morning All,

So I've had yet another issue with my V. This time the bloody thing wont start... Turns over on the electric starter but there is no combustion... wont Bump either....

Local Kwak Garage (Seastar SuperBikes) is picking it up today to take a look at it.... not having much luck with this bike I must say....

Although the fuel indicator is flashing, (and this has been discussed before at length) there is probably a good 5-8 litres of fuel left in the tank... ive only done about 170 mils on this tank. The fuel indicator is  :172: .....

I agree they are useless - but have you had a look inside the cap? Just incase it's all leaked somewhere?

Just heard from Seastar. They are saying that it is the ignition barrel and that the fuel pump is not turning on. They are going to strip and clean the ignition barrel and hopefully that will sort it.... I'm a little dubious.... :187:

I find with my MK3 if it's been stood for a while I have to turn the ignition on and off a few time to get the fuel through and then it starts.

Start simple, as they say.

Not that it's on you, and since it's in warranty let them deal with it, but have you checked fuses?

Edit: only seen your post. I was chasing the fuel system - hence the question above.

I was in too much of a rush to get to work to do any in depth fault finding and as you say, its under warranty so i just put it away, drove to work in the car and called them to collect it!

They have just been on the phone again to say that i need to lube and clean the barrel on a regular basis as I  use it as a daily commuter... Never heard that one before... :187:

I use mine as a daily commuter too, but this is not something I have been doing.

What lube were they suggesting?

If I wanted a bike that was going to break down because it got a bit wet I would have bought a Ducati.... (Major slander, I know  :33: just playing the Italian stereotype)
