On - Board camera
« on: Jul 04, 2018, 07:11 PM »
Evening all,
anyone any advice on where to fit a camera - either to the bike or to a helmet? Can think of advantages/disadvantages in both locations (helmet or bars)
thanks :006:

I have just bought these.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07CGDDKPQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The quality is obviously not the greatest but you can make out number plates and other details and for £35 you cannot go far wrong.
The screen does either split screen with front and rear, front only, rear only or PIP with the rear in the corner of the front image.
It records both streams at the same time onto an SD card.

Rear

No way to change the image, this is how it comes set up and advertised as a good thing.
I am not so sure, but still £35!

Due to there ever increasing usage we edge ever closer to these becoming mandatory and then with the IOT auto upload for police review. We are nearly there now

Ok Iíll give my thoughts on the bike cams...

Firstly I have them in both my cars and when some crazy old Doris pulled out on me it proved she was in the wrong despite her husband blaming me and saying those magical words ďIím a London barristerĒ as if I gave two hoots about his job!

I donít have one on my bike for a few reasons, I want one thatís hard wired in and has loop record. There is a few about so I may start looking into this soon ish...

I will NOT helmet mount a camera, I been to an RTC where a lid mounted GoPro punched a square shaped hole through the guys helmet, I also heard a rumour that this was what caused Schumacher serious head injuries when he was skiing  (not sure if itís true) I can imagine it did.

The other thing is if you have a camera mounted on your bike and bin it, there is a damn good chance that the footage will be seized by the cops and held against you. Especially if itís a serious accident, You simply could convict yourself! I appreciate there is a good side to it in case of accident it can help but it also can screw you.
At serious accidents we now check cars and bikes for Dash cams.

My advice is to get a camera like Stewies and mount it on the bike be it visible or hidden.
