This problem you have is similar to what several people have had now, except no code shown. What was found, now in 3 cases was moisture in the vehicle down sensor, this does not throw a code, the bike will crank over but power to the fuel pump and stick coils is interrupted . Surprisingly this was on a 2015 in the latest case. Also on a 2014 where the Kawsaki mechanics spent over 6 hours over several days and finally nailed it down. There is a work around to prove this that I have developed.

Cool, thanks, will give that a go this weekend.

Any tips on the fasteners, how do you get them off, don't want to break them...

Also, would this fit a 2015 engine? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kawasaki-KLE650-650-Versys-FHFA-Spec-Edition-2017-Throttle-Bodies-219/192556145025

Thanks,
Get your owners manual out, page 107 & 108 , quick rivets , push pins in 1/8 inch, remove pin, pop pin out to reinstall , press pin flush.

Thanks for the help InverterMan!

I'm going to check the tilt/ down sensor later this evening. The following post suggests it's under the left front fairing - https://www.versys.co.uk/index.php/topic,16505.msg210450.html#msg210450

Any definites on where it is?

Thanks!

Just a reminder this is symptom of  a problem when it won't start, key off and on and then it starts with no malfunction light coming on. I had someone with this problem take their sensor apart several days after they had replaced it, they found moisture inside. This person stored their bike outside and had been in several rain storms .If this is your problem, no codes and similar starting problems, and you are out of warranty, post back, as I have a work around to prove this, actually PM me , this is my development and this site has limited copywrite posting, cost of parts about $3.

I have a 2018 with the same intermittent starting problem as the op, except when I turn the key the fuel pump primes, needles sweep but when I press the starter nothing at all happens, it doesn't try to turn over, just silence. Turn on and off a few time and it starts as normal. Any ideas anyone?

Maybe just a bad battery contact if not a bike shop check over.

Not the VDS , next time, try pulling in the clutch when it doesn't start . If it starts with the clutch in, you may have a problem with the neutral switch ground connection, I would check all the frame grounds. Next , have a close look at the start solenoid, make sure nothing is loose, the current carrying terminals are bolt on, this is your main fuse area . FYI You have a start relay and a start solenoid. Pay attention when this doesn't start, don't key off, listen closely , the start relay is directly under the tank, pushing the start button listen for clicking, this proves the start circuit isn't inhibited .

Thanks for the replies. I usually pull the clutch in when starting but tried both in and out. There was a clicking under the tank on the right hand side.

Just got notification. That is good, you need to go directly to the main start solenoid, chances are good that you have a bad connection or bad start solenoid , I have seen and have posts of bad start solenoids, look closely at the two screws on the left, look for colour change. If you can, try using a tooth pick and jamming the start button in, then tap the start solenoid, chances are good you either have a bad contact or a bad connection.

Back to the dealer today as still under warranty. Of course the problem would not appear. After ruling out a problem with the battery they have replaced the starter relay. So just have to wait and see if that fixes it.
