09 Versys 650 Mirrors
« on: Mar 21, 2019, 11:01 AM »
Hi.
I have a 2009 Versys 650.  My left mirror fell to pieces while riding the other day so I ordered a new set of mirrors.  I thought this would be a simple task of unscrewing the current mirrors and screwing the new ones in but I've run into a problem.  I managed to unscrew the mirror but it looks like there is another part that needs to be unscrewed.  You can see it in this image.

The mirrors I bought look like this

So at the moment the mirrors don't fit as the thread is on the wrong side.  Does this extra part need to be unscrewed from the bike as well?  I've tried my best with some spanners and WD-40 but it won't budge.  I've searched the internet to see if there are any tutorials for this but can't find anything. (probably because it's such an easy task)

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

FYI the 2 image links posted are identical.

Pics are also a bit small, can't really see them .... you might want to try reposting larger images or consider using the forum's Photo Gallery which has the ability to embed the images into your posts.

Welcome to the forum btw, you might want to consider creating an introductory topic in the New Members board.   :028:

Sorry.  let me try again.
This is a picture of the mirror I have managed to get off.

I'm not sure if the bit still on the bike needs to come off.

This is one of the mirrors I bought.  I hope they aren't the wrong ones.

Thanks.  I'll head over to the new members board and say hello  :152:

You do need to take the other bit off the handlebars.

This might be a left hand thread.
If you cannot take it off in the normal way, lefty loosey.

Try taking if of using the righty tighty way, which will actually be righty loosey in a left hand thread.

Got it sorted. It was lefty loosey after all. It just needed a decent spanner and a good yank to loosen it off. The thread on the right hand side was the other way so I had to screw the new mirrors in lefty tighty on that side.
Thanks for the help!
