Ride rant and spill...
« on: Sep 12, 2019, 04:51 PM »
So this tail starts off with the morning rain! I get woke up by the pen lying of rain on the window, for a moment I relax knowing that I’m safe and dry! Then it hits me! I have to go out in that!
“I know! I’ll take the truck!” I say to myself before realising the truck is away getting a new starter put in it.
Fast forward 3 mins...
I slowly get dressed in my cold, damp bike gear (it rained last night before I got home and it hadn’t fully dried yet. No oil in the tank so no heating to dry it out)
I decide to skip breakfast and get something on the road! I have a trip to Belfast to pick up parts for my embroidery machine, 130 miles total!

I set off! Little did I know how badly this day was going to turn out!

I made it to my favourite little rest stop and decide to buy myself a burger!

But wait!!! No wallet!!!
The damn thing is sitting on my coffee table beside the Strap-On Award!!!

I’ll head off and finish the run...
I get to the depot and collect the parts, and set off for the ride home.
I’m eagerly waiting to see the clock reach 10,000 miles today! 9980 as I glance at it, 9985... 9990... ffs hurry up!!! 9998... I can’t stop of the damn motorway!!! 9999... [censored] it pull off the motorway and stop!!!
As I do the clock hits 10,000 miles! At the same time some idiot pulls his car in front of me and slams on the brakes! I slam mine on and manage to stop in time!!! Thanks god!
I take a breath but then quickly realise something, I’m tipping over and can’t hold the bike!!! NO!!!!
It falls...

The driver heads off and leaves me... wanker!!!

Another biker stops to help me. I’m now trapped below the bike! Not letting it fall again after last time without cushioning!

We get the bike lifted survey the damage, a small scrap to the hand guard, tiny scrap on indicator... that’s it!!! Thank the lucky stars!!!

I sit and chat to the biker (Dave) for a few mins and catch my breath.

My momento for that spill! As you can see by the time. Not that long ago...

We get on the bikes and head off. Thankfully by now I’m drying out so the ride home isn’t too bad. Just the sore leg to content with now.

I make it home without further incident and give the bike a full once over, no more damage. But crash bars are going on!!! Screw the price!!!

And now the sun is out! I can sit back, relax, drink beer, and order pizza lol.
I have the leg bandaged up atm as the fall did draw blood, I’ll post a picture at some stage when I get it cleaned up a little better.

You should have gone back to bed. You just know when it's one of those days. Good job cushioning the impact!

Now you're a proper Versonaut. It's not a Versys until you've had a daft drop (or three in my case).

To make you feel better, a few years ago during a very stressful period I decided to take the bike to London for a client meeting (save money, better parking, etc.). Rode through an exceptionally bad traffic jam, dodging hypnotised driver closing the gap as I filtered. It rained, then it shone, then it rained again until at last I reached central London at which point the sun decided to go into full Malaga mode and I started sweating my nads off. Pulled up to the office, went to bump up a kerb for a covered parking spot. Front wheel pinged off the slippery kerb...and given I was in posing mode, up on the pegs, I had to do a fat mans barrel roll into a leftover burger on the ground. Pulled my back setting the bike upright. Couldn't get the bike up the kerb. Parked it in a car bay. Went to the meeting sweating like mad and smelling like a day old burger. Got back to the bike and had been ticketed for no pay and display.

It almost put me off biking. Almost.

As Jon says we have all done it, you have been baptised by the V and accepted as its rightful master.

What Jon fails to mention is that he actually saw the burger and dived off his bike to get it.
Richard does the same with ice cream.
