Am i being a knob? (rhetoric)
« on: Oct 13, 2019, 02:52 AM »
Half-seven this morning, wheeling the bike out backwards and felt that mushy-resistance and got that sinking feeling.

A bent 3" nail was fast just off-centre of me 470-mile Maxxis  :006:

Pumped it up to 40psi then left it to warm-up, it had lost a few psi so as i had to be somewhere i chucked the pump in me bag and went.

Pumped it back up three more times before giving it up as a bad-job.

Got the tyre off and went in search of a repair-kit on me pedal-bike, no joy anywhere.

So, to the knobbish bit.

I decided to give Sugru a shot, making a mushroom myself. i've fixed and made all sorts with it and it's good stuff but........

I'll leave it 24-hours then when it's on i'll ride an ever-expanding route armed with a gauge and stirrup-pump .

Will i die? Does anyone care?  (more rhetoric).

I'll report on here or through a psychic intermediary.

Buy some "sticky string" type repair, or get a pro to repair it with an internal mushroom plug.

Mark.

I'd be amazed if it worked, but having used Sugru in other applications it can (in certain circumstances) do amazing things. I used it to form a part of a retaining clip on an old car of mine and it held in place for two years.

Dunno what's going on with punctures but a mate of mine put new shoes on his fancy Africa Twin and within 50 miles had a shiny new screw embedded in the rear as a free accessory.

Just a tip guys, check to make sure your glue hasn't "gone off" if it's been in your kit for a while.  Happened to me earlier in the year.  :006:

Had it been previously opened or was it a new tube?

 Rob.
Don't take Life too serious, it's not permanent.

Not done anything today (yesterday now) with it, and i've grown more uncertain thinking about the lack of flexibility of cured Sugru.

I take yer points Wal and jonnster

It might be daft but i'll see it through.

I'll look at getting some mushrooms Oldplodder and Rictus, couldn't get any on the day, i'll need glue too but i'll risk doing it myself seeing as tyre will be off again.
Doesn't seem to be many mushroom kits  :027:

The string look worthwhile as a backup Rictus, could've just stuffed it in without the other mither.

I've had 4 inflation-canisters under the seat since i bought the bike but never bought a kit.

As Wal, Ok to get you to a dealer/ tyre fitter, but needs to be a proper vulcanised plug, I've ridden tyres with 3 proper plugs before now  :001:
Just passin' through
