If it is indeed Disneyland, you are right there at the base of the San Bernardino, Cleavland mountains and the Anza Borrego desert.  That means you are a short rental away from motorcycling bliss.  Once you get out of that hell-hole that is Orange County, you might as well have died and arrived at the pearly gates...    :biker1: :biker1:

Sorry, DISNEYWORLD,  :012: didn't know their was another in the states. The only other Disney park I know of is DisneyLand, Paris A.K.A Euro Disney for those of us who remember when it was first built!  :whistle:

I suppose there will be some rides I can go on and I am kinda looking forward to visiting the Kennedy space Center and The Hard Rock Hotel (not staying there unfortunately) Universal Park/Land/World? looks tolerable
 too.

The worst bit is that we're going with three other families, my wife's friends, all hiring and sharing villas! i can see myself spending two weeks trying not to fall over a seemingly endless stream of messy little kids!!  :5: :023:


The TAT looks amazing, I'm led to believe there's a similar European one that runs North to South. Sanders took the new Yamaha Tenere along the route as part of it's press launch I believe. However, i must illustrate that I have NEVER been off road on a motorcycle and I fear a gravel driveway would even be a challenge right now  :006: :008:
Ideally I'd take a Royal Enfield Himalayan, not that I have the first clue about fixing anything, but someone can fix one of those at the side of the road with a roll of duct tape and a wrench!  :152: . On some sort of off road adventure, but mainly light gravel tracks!

Yes, since I did the TAT the TET has been created...for free too   :38:  Having done a little off roading in Wales etc I think the European one is generally a bit more technical, there are lots of technical stuff in the States as well,l but they have many many more graded "fireroad" type trails.
The Himalayan would be a great choice...just look at Itchy Boots.

Nothing against visiting Canada (it's actually rather nice), but there is a lot more to the US than the big cities or major attractions 90% of the tourists come for.  Actually, I would argue those are the least interesting places in the US...   :211:

It's a lot less crowded than the big cities (although, if you are near a major national landmark/park, probably not a lot cheaper) and there are countless things to see and explore.  You could ride a motorcycle only on paved roads and not run into anybody for hours.  You don't have to go on gravel tracks to get away from it all.

This run I did a couple of years ago to the Sequoia National Forest being one example of just what's available in the southwestern US:

 In addition, the western mountains in the States are much wider than in Canada and offer a greater choice of roads, scenery and menu. Refried beans anyone? Biscuits and gravy?

Had another unplanned free day last week, so I decided to go for another run at Death Valley.  Except this time I cut out the touristy part around Furnace Creek out and concentrated on the 4 curves  :whistle: that are in the southeast side.

Ride still started by going out to Pahrump, where you get gas at reasonable prices before climbing out over the second pass of the day.

Pahrump Casinos are not quite as those in Vegas:


Gas was indeed cheaper than in DV at $2.89/gal (or $0.76/liter).  With about 200 miles of range, I was ready to go explore.

Coming into Shoshone, I see a young woman walking by on the opposite side of the road, toward Pahrump.  About a mile down the road is a red 3 series with flashers on.  I make a U-turn, and ask him if he needs help.  Seems like he has a slow leak out of the rear tire.  He asks me if I happen to have an air pump...  Of course I have a pump.  He can barely believe it...   :008:

His girlfriend was walking trying to get reception so they could call a tow truck.  My phone had no reception there either.



I put my Slime pump to work, but that leak was about the same as the pump capacity.  It took about 30 minutes to get to 25 PSI...   :015:


At it wouldn't go any higher than that.  I told him his best bet was go pick up his friend and try to make it into Pahrunp, or at least close enough to have reception to make that call.  I hope they made it into town.

Continued south into Shoshone, then into Death Valley over Salsberry Pass.  Yes, there are some actual curves here...   :008:

 






The target was the Ashford Mill ruins I didn't stop at the other week.  Surprisingly, there were quite a few cars and RVs there today.  Several families out on this long weekend traveling in and through Death Valley.

Back across both passes into Shoshone for lunch.  Had lunch at the Crowbar:

A quick run down CA-127 to Tecopa, which is a really weird "town".  There are some hot springs outside of it, and apparently, people come here to hangout.  Technically, it's outside Death Valley park, but the scenery isn't that different.  Pretty barren landscape and with mineral deposits that make it look like it's covered in snow in some places:



Then I'm off to run across Emigrant Pass.  This was part of the Old Spanish Trail, a horse/mule trail, that connected the communities in the Mojave desert.









Hmmm, I think there are more than 4 curves just in that pass.  So maybe I lied to you guys.   :008:  I had not ridden that in a long time, beats me why, it's probably the best set of curves within 100 mile radius of Las Vegas.  So I turned around when I got to the valley, and run in=t back and forth a couple more times....   :biker1: :biker1: :biker1:





And before you know it, the sun is getting low (well, it was low all day, it is winter), and you may have noticed quite a bit of cloud coverage in other pics, so it was getting chilly, so I set the bike back on course to Las Vegas.



Yeah, the valley roads are still straight as arrows...   :015:

Google says 220 miles, but that doesn't include the 3 runs across Emigrant Pass, so probably closer to 260 for the total ride.  Not bad for an unplanned ride.   :001:

Despite the fact that I could use a real break (not one of the typical working vacations...   :173:), I don't expect to be jobless any time soon, much less retired.  Mostly because I can't afford it...   :138:
