Is this a record? Rear brake pads 41k miles
« on: Mar 10, 2020, 02:59 PM »
The title says it all. Getting the bike ready for the season and noticed my rear pads were down to 1mm, then I realised that these are the original pads. Couldn't believe it so checked my service record and yep...last time they were touched was 40,755 miles ago at the factory in Malaysia.

Is this a record?

Might not be as lots or riders never use the rear brake.

What? Some riders don't take advantage of the enormous stopping power provided by the bottle top sized rear disc? :008:

What you need is a MK3, which has a giant sized rear brake.  But there again it may not do 40,000 miles :027:

No.

 :008:

My classic Mk1 has 47K miles on it, still running the original pads both front and rear.   :211:

And it doesn't look like they'll need replacing before Rob gets seller's remorse and offers me a small fortune for this mint, all original classic bike...

Hmm. And all the while,  plodding along behind Gustavo, I thought his brake light wasn't working.

Good old engine braking it's the best pad saver ever.

You can say that again.. My brand new bike nearly threw me over the handlebars at the first roundabout after closing the throttle.

But yes the Versys is a great bike for preserving brake pads, even after a long running in period.  :152:
