Maybe bad Fuel Pump?

Hi everyone, I've got a feeling my fuel pump is going bad as every now and then when I turn the ignition on I can't hear the pump turn on and sometimes it works no problems at all.

Bike runs perfect once turned on though and no engine light while running. The engine light comes on for maybe 1 second when i turn the ignition on and then goes off once engine is started.

I've seen online about the built in diagnostics on some models of the 650 however I can't get those to work on my 2016

On the occasions the fuel pump doesn't prime, when the starter button is pressed, the engine management light flashes on and off repeatedly.

Sorry for the long post but I'm hoping someone here has experienced this before and is able to give some insight

It's more than likely to be another dodgy / dirty Mk3 ignition switch 
As the fuel pump is on the same switched controlled Cct.

 Agreed, and if not that then something else in the power supply to the pump rather than the pump itself.

 I had a pump failure in an '08 V650 and it had none of your symptoms. Just wouldn't supply adequate fuel for much above an idle. It had good pressure but less than half the specified volume over a 3 second interval.

Does the water enter the fuel tank?

 It can do, most likely by condensation or bad fuel. Keeping the tank filled between rides and the use of methyl hydrate as a moisture dispersant can reduce the likelihood.
