Replacement LED or HID headlamps bulbs in a Versys are now a MoT fail

As per the above subject

From 11th Jan 2021, the MoT requirements for Motorcycles in the UK has been updated - HERE

In Section 4.1.4 - Headlamps - The wording has been changed

'Some motorcycles may be fitted with high intensity discharge (HID) headlamps.
Existing halogen headlamp units should not be converted to be used with HID bulbs.
If such a conversion has been done, you must fail the headlamp'

to

'Some motorcycles may be fitted with high intensity discharge (HID) or light emitting diode (LED) headlamps.
Existing halogen headlamp units should not be converted to be used with HID or LED bulbs.
If such a conversion has been done, you must fail the headlamp.'


So everyone who has a replacement H7 HID or a LED fitted at the time of a MoT, will now be an automatic failure
I can see this also eventually being enforced more rigorously by the police as well - ie m/c in unroadworthy condition

Guess I'll have to swap mine back to the standard! A shame since the light from the LED bulb is much nicer

  Nicer as in the light let's you see where you are going better.  Or  the colour of the bulb is nicer ?

I prefer the colour, it shows marginally better on the road, but the biggest difference it seems to have made it people actually seem to notice it more.

I read it to mean that:
if you have substituted a HID or LED light source in a dipped and / or mainbeam headlamp housing that was originallyy designed to use a halogen filament bulb, then it will be a failure.

As long as your lights work it's a pass here, thank god. Anyway my new Z900 comes from the factory with LED's

It does seem a bit odd if the light still meets the beam pattern that is required.

To be honest I'm amazed that some of the new vehicles with LED lights fitted from factory, actually pass the MOT as they seem to throw light all over the show!
