Welcome VERSYSROOKIE. One thing to check is that the regulator /rectifier is protected from the weather by fitting a rear hugger, i also unplugged it from the wiring harness and coated the terminals with dialectic grease, then sealed it in with silicone, and after thirteen years have had no trouble. The workshop manual can be downloaded from this forum, do a search there is lot and lots of information on the good and bad things about the Versys mostly good.
