Versys 650 - Is there a better spec?
« on: Jun 08, 2021, 05:39 PM »
Hi all,

I am fairly new to the Versys (and forums for that matter) so apologies if this question is:
A - Stupid.
B - Already answered elsewhere.

I'm looking at purchasing a pre 2015 MK2 Versys 650. The examples I find vary quite a bit though (visually). Were there various spec packs when it came out? Is there a better varient to go for (besides a newer model year)? Want to be as clued up as I can when I come to buy one.
I notice some of them have black headlight clusters and some have silver. Does this have any factor other than just asthetics? (love the black btw...)

Many thanks in advance.

Most of the differences are visual. Rubber engine mounts in the Mk2s which imo don't make much difference. A stronger front brake master cylinder in the Mk2.

The important factor in bikes of that era is the condition and degree of maintenance that the particular bike has had. Tires, chain and sprockets, service records, extras that you might want would be the concern rather than spec.

Just to be pedantic  :008:
The better brake master cylinder used on the Mk2, was actually introduced on the 2009 version of the "Superior" Mk1  :031:

Yeah, but then we're getting down to months and serial numbers. You'll notice that I didn't reveal the big give away of superior spec, colour  :exclamation: .
