Question on Booster Plugs
« on: Oct 15, 2021, 10:44 PM »
I am interested to see if anyone has fitted an early Booster Plug to a 2017-2020 Versys 650.
According to Booster Plug's own website, there are two different Booster Plugs  for the Versys 650 - One for 2007-2016 and another for 2017-2020.
However, MPW who are Booster Plug UK agents state there is one Booster Plug for 2007 to 2020 - the same plug does all years.
Has anyone had the experience of the earlier one on a later bike?
I am aware that a Booster Plug cannot be fitted to a 2021 bike, but my interest is on a 2018 V650 and to see if it would work without any problems and gives some benefit.

Dave

I asked the same thing on the V1k as was told this. Maybe it is the same on the V650

Hello Richard,

Thanks for the positive feedback, and congratulations on your new bike :-)

Your question makes sense, but the different versions are not about the Mk1/Mk2 model shift, but related to the EURO3/EURO4 emission standards.

The shift to the new stricter EURO 4 emmision standards (and the similar EPA changes for the US market) in 2017 was a massive change, and depending on how this was handled by the bike manufactorers, it required a new type of BoosterPlug on some bikes - but other bikes will still need the same BoosterPlug at previously.

EURO 4 was a big thing in the media, and we decided to list almost all 2017-and-newer models seperately, no matter if they are the same unit as for earlier bikes or not. Partly for our internal sales statistics, partly to make the customer confident that he will receive the correct BoosterPlug for his bike.

But for the Kawasaki Versys 1000, the BoosterPlug is actually the same unit for both the 2017 and never version and the 2012-2016 version, so the A431 and A432 are the same unit and you can go with either of them.

Hope this clears things up a bit.
Cheers
Jens Lyck

Hi

I have been successfully running a Booster Plug on a 2009 Versys 650 for a number of years, so I an a fan 😊
However I have now upgraded to a Versys 1000 Mk2 (2015 model)😉

Your product "KAWASAKI-A431" covers both Versys 1000 Mk1 (2011 to 2014)   and Versys 1000 Mk2 (2015 to 2016)
and product "KAWASAKI-A432" covers Versys 1000 Mk2 (2016 onward)

Was there a change on the Mk2 Model 2016 onward that the Versys 1000 forum is unaware of 🤔, as the main change we are aware of in the UK was from the Mk1 to Mk2 in 2014/2015, where the Mk2 engine tune is different to the Mk1 model before👍

I hope you can clarify which one I require A431 or A432
Regards

I do have the Can Am Spyder ( I will put a pic or two in the Gallery if anyone is interested) but I am awaiting collection from the dealers of a Mk3 V650 - no pics as yet.

My Goldwing has gone - for which my knackered knee is eternally grateful (and so is the other half who had lost confidence in my knee's ability to hold the Wing up), and the BMW is currently stripped of accessories ready to be part-ex'd
