On the plus side?? I got to try out the Stop n Go mushroom tyre repair kit which did get me the 40 miles back home but I don't have much faith in the plug, so may try the sticky string thing next time.

Yes, that is very annoying. Looks like the common or garden PZ2 countersunk wood screw which prefers to lie dormant in gravel drives or car parks waiting to attach itself to a host to suck the air out.
Can be prevented by applying a deterrent (pain) to the person (tradesman) who canít be bothered to pick up these tiny twists of misery.

I've used the Stop and Go a couple of times with good effect. I did over 3000 miles on one rear tyre repair with no problems.

I also had a stop and go in the rear tyre for a couple of years.
