The perfect stand for the V
« on: Jun 28, 2008, 11:06 AM »
Paddock stands are hard to find here.. :003:
So i became creative and designed my own...
Generally based on Abba's stand idea... but a move specific setup for the versys.

on the V we have this srosswise hollow pipe which is part of the frame:

to get there this plastic cover has to be removed on both sides (one screw each):

now a steel rod can be inserted through this pipe (right side) :

left side:

the whole thing looks like this:

the process:

few advantages for this setup:
1. no need for bobbins, spools, fittings etc.
2. the support point is relatively high so the whole thing is very stable and very secure to lift and to bring down. no risk of dropping the bike.
3. the support point is not far from the bike's center of gravity so it's easy to lift the front too

both wheels up:

was designed to be cheap and simple. tested and works very well.
if any of you guys will be interested i can post my design drawing here. your local welder should be able to make one in 40 minutes... :002: (and 3 more hours fot the spray paint to dry... :180:)

That's a very clever idea, hr. I have to store my bike over the winter (five months  :019:). Being a carpenter, I fashioned a stand out of wood but it was a bit wobbly, so I definitely would be interested in the plans for your stand. Thanks in advance.

Nice idea, nice step by step procedure - do you work for Haynes (of workshop manual fame)?  :37:
I will choose a path that's clear, I will choose freewill.

I'm glad you didn't ask me to bring a paddock stand with me last month (like I was going to schlep that all the way over there...   :008:), we would have missed this creation.  Very nicely done.   :028:

So, are you going to go into business making HR stands?   :211:

Brilliant idea.........but we'd expect nothing less from a man of your caliber :152: I don't work in metal, but might try a similar idea in wood with a metal cross piece.

Thanks guys.. :002:...

Gustavo...no...i'm not going into stands business yet... :015:....maybe after retirement...:)...anyway the shipping costs - your local welder will make it of pure gold for this money...

Machog...i thought about wood too...but droped it as i thought it will have to be too bulky to withstand the torque in the joints while lifting...i guess it can be done though.
