A Ride. Plan... I gave up counting... Just call it "Carinda to the Coast"

It was 2 days before departure on a long-awaited trip, and a sensible time for a shakedown ride. Of course, this can only mean one thing...

I needed to pick up a new spare tube for the rear as I had used my current spare (a standard-duty rubber tube that was only a year old and unused with the new tyre as the 4+mm UHD tube was overkill for this easy ride). After an extra 1.5 hours of riding through the hills & farming country just west of my place with the bike running sweetly, I got to about 15 minutes away from home...

Flat, but only on the bottom

Easy. I have just bought a new tube.
I have stopped in a nice flat spot for working, plus I have plenty of time to get an extra tube tomorrow. Pity all my tools were on the bench at home. But it was soft grass beside a quiet country road on a pleasant late winter afternoon. Stuff it, I'll call the tow truck. And have a little lie-down while I wait.

Hmmm, I hoped I had fixed that

    Eventually, the tow truck arrived.

And I got home. Eventually. With plenty of time to give the Versys a clean & service tomorrow.

    Cheers,

    John

    Tomorrow. A whole new day!

The Versys is clean, serviced and packed. And ready!

The KLR is sulking as the ride was to the Australian KLR Riders Rally (I've been to most of them since 2009).

One little piggy went to Carinda, and one little piggy stayed home
    Cheers,

    John

The pikkie of the rear disc rotor indicates that the brake has not been working as it is showing rust  :notsure: :033: :027:.
What would you rather be, or a wasp?

    Brakes? What are brakes?

That colour is just from reflections, further up the disc is clean.

Awesome! They're a bit more advanced than a Series 1 LR... I learnt to drive on Series 3. Maybe an original Disco is a better match? Apart from the noise, the 3.5... what a noise! Wow, you certainly got around - those are awesome photos and must have been amazing trips. Sometimes I look at smaller, lighter bikes...
Yes, it's a pity that K didn't (or is it couldn't) make the new one better than Euro 4 for sale over there, it's such an easy, low-stress bike that will do most things.

    Cheers

    Day 1. The Big Day

    Can we come too?

First stop was to meet up with David (on the Honda 600, because his ever-faithful KLR also said no), then over the range to Warwick to collect Jamie (who actually was on a KLR, but he at least had a new front tyre that wanted to wobble). And on time too, well KLR time anyway.

    Well, let's do this then

I like the Versys. It's smooth & quiet, with enough power to carry a load AND overtake. And it was the most economical of the 3 bikes. But the suspension... fine on the smooth roads, but the damping, the damping just doesn't work on the rough roads.

We rolled into Carinda NSW quietly & slowly as it was late & dark with a lot of fast, camouflaged, stupid wildlife around. But we did get there safely. Riding with new people can be interesting, but this time it was great.

Awesome way to end the day, now where's the pub?

740km from the city and way into the bush

    Cheers,

    John
