Day 2. No photos, it didn't happen, I only pay with cash.

A great day hanging out with other riders - catching up with old friends, putting faces to internet names & meeting a few more interesting people. Talk to some locals at the pub. Spend a few dollars in a small town that was something once, but is barely a skeleton now. Why don't I do more of this?

    Day 3. Sunday.

A great day for a ride

After a great day of just hanging out, it's time to ride. But after breakfast at the cafe (they opened especially for us and cooked an awesome bacon/egg roll), and a bit of standing in the morning sun & just talking bikes, rides & stuff...  Then, then it's time to head towards home, but not home. And just one more photo.

    Cheers,

    John

Yes, yes that is a David Bowie mural on an old corrugated iron shed at the sports grounds in a very small farming town in north-western NSW, Australia.

    Because...

    David Bowie was there.

The opening scene & the pub - the road now has some bitumen, the tree is gone & the bar was re-decorated (but the wall he stands against is still there).  :38: :celebrate: :123A:

Carinda. Now to ride to the coast.

    Cheers,

    John

The sun is high enough to be mostly out of my eyes, so it really is time to say goodbye & ride.

East. Through flat, open, unfenced grazing land.

Yes, there is a corner up ahead

And into flat, open, fenced cropping land.

    Hill. What's a hill?

And the morning rolled peacefully on - back to Walgett, then east on the Kamilaroi High Way into cotton & grain country. There were some cars, and a couple of trucks, but no trains. Through Cryon (grain storage and an intersection - stay focused & turn right), Burren Junction (more grain storage, a railway station and a small town on the left - no need to stop, just a need to ride), down the road & further down the road... across a couple of small dry creeks then it's time to stop. No real reason. I just wanted to. Or maybe I needed to use "the facilities".

I actually like this type of riding: big wide country, big blue skies, slow & subtle changes in the land...

12:06 pm. Rossmore Lane to my right. Another time - the coast is calling.

Wee Waa, Narrabri, then off the highway onto Killarney Gap Road and into the hills. And corners. And even some forest. And lunch beside the road.

There's rain in them thar hills

And a bit of rain and cold. I missed most of the rain, but only by half an hour, so there was still enough to get damp & cold, plus make the roads a bit interesting.

Ok, I will put in the rain-liner

I just let the road lead me up through the twists & turns over Killarney Gap, then follow Rocky Creek through a small gap in the next range and gently down to where it joins the Horton River; across the Horton River Bridge (built in 1940) and gently across more rolling farmlands & up the next little forested range, then down again & finally into Bingara for the night.

An amazing hour of riding, riding & riding - hills, turns, forests, farms, creeks, rivers, a bit of rain, some cold, afternoon sun on the rocky mountains & thick rain clouds.

Crispy Pork Belly for dinner, seriously good stuff

    Cheers,

    John

Sounds like a proper motorcycle trip. Out with your mates, great vistas, good grub, and away from the hum drum of modern life.

Sometimes motorcycles are just the way to go.

    Enjoy.    Geoff  :2:
