I agree that sh#t can happen when you least expect it! I may come unstuck one day but I've done 1st service's and minor thereafter on several new  fazers,er6ns,vstroms and this versys. The dealer must do first service is a scam. Why the first service which is probably the easiest?? The only annoyance  I have is the 600 mile service icon which is a tiny spanner. You can't reset it like the oil change milage reset. If I have to buy a generic diagnostic tool to do this, so be it. But at the moment it's not that much of a big deal. Congrats on having a decent dealer. Few and far between once a sale has been secured.

Fortunately for me mine is a 21 model, so doesn't have bloody stupid service spanners blinking at you.

Going back to the 1st service nonsense. I can only assume that, and it's a long shot. Could the oil that they leave the factory with be some kind of ' running in ' oil ?, and, after very low mileage it is goosed.  :027:

Or maybe the dealer sprinkles some magic instant service dust over our bikes  :008: in order to make them last longer. Or as you say, its just a load of bollock, designed to separate us from our hard earned money.    :lostit:

It's a gimmick I believe. It's all designed for us mere mortals to keep our spanners in boxes. I've seen 17 year old apprentice mechanics let loose on 125cc oil changes years ago after a basic briefing when my mate worked for Honda. Its just the unknown that panics people into not having ago at the basic stuff themselves. I dont claim to be a valve clearance specialist or the like but filters and oil are ok. I had the tank off of the er6n a couple of times. During the first attempt an onlooker would have thought that i was defusing a bomb!! Each to their own but I'm nearly the wrong side of 60 so the old grey matter needs to be taxed from time to time :152:
